GCU Legends go for glory

The students triumphed in the basketball.

MORE than 100 GCU graduates known for their sporting prowess gathered in Glasgow over the weekend to compete against current Glasgow Caledonian students in the second GCU Legends competition.

Competitors travelled from all across the UK to take part in the challenge, which also gave alumni the chance to catch up with each other and pass on their tips for life after university.

Most of the sporting action – including netball, basketball and indoor football – took place on the GCU campus, while hockey, football and rugby matches were played out on nearby pitches.

Former Vice President Sports & Societies, Hannah Dunwoody, coordinated the event as part of ongoing development of the ‘GCU Legends’ group, which she founded, with plenty of assistance from current VPSS, Beth Montgomery.

Beth said: “The GCU Legends group was formed to help sports graduates keep in touch with the university and I was delighted to be involved with this year’s competition. It’s an amazing weekend that everyone looks forward to for months, and is a lovely way to round off the year and catch up with old friends. Not only is it a lot of fun, but the standard of play was very high so there is still a strong competitive element.”
