Crerar Hotels Trust helps support GCU

GCU staff accept the cheque from Crerar's Graham Urquhart

Glasgow Caledonian University’s (GCU) Caledonian Club has been awarded £15,000 by Crerar Hotels Trust to help support its award-winning work with young people.

The donation will support GCU’s flagship widening participation initiative’s activities to raise educational aspirations and build confidence in young people and their families from schools across Glasgow.

Nathan Tagg, Caledonian Club Manager, Hannah Johnston, GCU’s Development, Alumni Relations and Events’ Development Manager, and Zoe Chatterton, Caledonian Club Development Officer, accepted the donation from Graham Urquhart, General Manager of the hotel group’s GoGlasgow Urban Hotel.

Nathan said: “The Caledonian Club is delighted to receive this generous donation from Crerar Hotels Trust. The donation will support the Club’s work developing key life skills and raising the educational aspirations of young people and their families. Since its establishment in 2008, the Club has worked with over 11,000 young people from nursery through to sixth year and close to 3,000 family members to widen access to higher education and help young people reach their potential. The donation will help us to continue providing this life-enhancing support.”

The Club works with children from nursery-age to sixth year and their families on innovative in-school and on-campus projects focusing on arts and language, future aspirations, transition and enterprise.

Paddy Crerar, Chairman of Crerar Hotels Trust, said: “To encourage talent, to see children and young adults acquire new skills, confidence and interests is of great importance to us.”

Jill Watt, GCU’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations, said: “As a University for the Common Good, GCU is committed to delivering social impact and benefit through education, research and innovation. We are thrilled to receive this donation from Crerar Hotels Trust to support the unique work of the Caledonian Club, one of GCU’s many incredible projects transforming lives in Glasgow and in communities around the world.”
