2015 Fashion Show

The Glasgow Caledonian University 2015 Fashion Show showcased the latest innovative designs on the runway as part of students’ business-focused fashion degrees.

Students from the BA (Hons) Fashion Business programme exhibited their original creations at the annual celebration, which took place during two catwalk shows in the University’s Carnegie Lecture Theatre last night.

The Show included a collection of “upcycled” designs made from wedding dresses provided by renowned Scottish luxury gown retailer Anna Cirignaco of Eleganza Sposa, contemporary shirt dresses and a high-street range created for major Chinese manufacturer Kashion, a collaboration with Glasgow School for Business and Society.

Student Fiona Armstrong designed Gone Galactic incorporating wedding-dress material and upcycled industrial mop heads while Ellis Brier created a chandelier-inspired dress from an Eleganza Sposa wedding dress and chandelier trimmings.

Third-year Fashion Business student Sophie Bee created her show-stopping design Unfolding Memories using materials from old vintage cameras and film edits. She said: “I spent three months sketching and working on the design and a further three months making the garment.”

Behind the scenes, the event was supported by students on the MSc International Fashion Marketing and BA (Hons) International Fashion Branding programmes as well as sixth-year pupils studying Fashion Brand Retailing at the University.

Assistant Head, Department of Business Management, Dr Julie McColl said: “Our students have again risen to the challenge and continue to push the boundaries of fashion. The Fashion Show is a culmination of students’ hard work and an opportunity to celebrate creativity and innovative approaches in design. Students have been given first-hand experience of working with industry leaders Eleganza Sposa and Kashion before breaking into what is a multi-million pound industry.”

Managing Director and owner of Eleganza Sposa Anna Cirignaco added: “Eleganza Sposa has been delighted to support GCU Fashion students in various creative projects over the last few years. The annual GCU Fashion Show is always an incredible event that shows the students' design and technical talents as well as the importance of working to a commercial brief. I was blown away by the creativity displayed by students.”
