Launch of KAR Construction Scholarships

Khalid Abdulrahim with Peter Kennedy

GLASGOW Caledonian University’s new Khalid Abdulrahim Construction Scholarship Programme has been officially launched following a tour and lunch at the House of Lords.

The scale of the programme, which has been funded for an initial five years, is such that it will have a sustained and beneficial impact for Built and Natural Environment students over the years to come.

Funding from the Scholarships will be used to fund international study tours, internships, cultural elements related to the Middle East, including the study of Arabic, and assistance for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

GCU alumnus Khalid Abdulrahim, who studied MSc Construction Management in 2004, set up the awards to provide opportunities for talented students and, in particular, those individuals who would need financial support to commence or complete their education.

The scholarship programme will be open for applications in the next academic year 2010/2011. It will run for five years initially with the intention that it will be continued for the following five years

The Dean, Peter Kennedy and his staff are delighted that Khalid, one of their former students, has made this possible and they look forward to the first cohort of KAR Scholars and their subsequent stories; experiences and personal growth.

Mr Kennedy said: “Lives will be changed, shaped and influenced. These will be truly international, world class experiences for ambitious and talented students.”
