GCU hosts AH History Conference for pupils

More than 100 Advanced Higher History secondary pupils and their teachers from Glasgow and surrounding areas attended lectures at Glasgow Caledonian University’s Advanced Higher Hub today (Friday, March 27).

The lectures focused on three key curriculum areas, Soviet Russia, USA and German history, and included revision seminars delivered by SQA Advanced Higher History markers.

Head of the Advanced Higher Hub Rebecca Lavery said: "This is an ideal opportunity to bring together highly ambitious and hardworking young people to share their ideas and learn from one another. The pupils and our own Advanced Higher students will be revising for their forthcoming exams supported by academic experts in their fields, as well picking up study tips through our study skills sessions."

Lectures were delivered by GCU’s Dr Janet Greenlees, which focused on the USA – The House Divided option, and Dr Ben Shepherd, who presented on foreign policy in Germany. Professor Evan Mawdsley, emeritus professor of Glasgow University and esteemed author, shared his expertise on the Russian Civil War and the Great Patriotic War.

One Advanced Higher Hub associate student Ryan Byrne, said: "The session is a great help ahead of the exam period, particularly as it included study skills and revision tips. It was also brilliant to work with university lecturers too as they really enhanced my understanding of the topic area."
