GCU marks Holocaust Memorial Day

To mark the seventieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp, the Universities and College Union (UCU) at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) provided information to staff and students about the Holocaust and other genocides around the world.

Organisers provided leaflets and testimonials from survivors of the Holocaust and other genocides, such as Rwanda. The work of GCU graduates, who produced a gaming application inspired by the experiences of Jewish refugees who fled Nazi persecution as children, was also on display.

UCU representative and Senior Lecturer, Media and Journalism Douglas Chalmers said:"It is important to mark this day of remembrance to ensure the Holocaust and other acts of genocide around the world will not be repeated.

“Through education, we can stop intolerance which leads to discrimination and genocide.”

The event was held in the Saltire Centre.
