Students graduate from GCU London

Students from the University's three academic schools graduated from GCU London today at a ceremony held in Christ Church, Spitalfields.

The graduands were presented with their degrees and 'capped' by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE during the traditional ceremony.

Mircea Ciorapciu, who is from Romania and studied Construction Management, said: "It's been a very quick but intense year and I feel so happy to be here today with my friends. The atmosphere at GCU London is friendly and everyone helps each other."

Graduates were joined by Jane Shepherdson MBE, CEO of Whistles, who was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award and appointed an Honorary Professor of GCU, and Douglas Dawson, Chief Operating Officer of Caparo Group, who was presented with an Alumni Achievement Award.

Ms Shepherdson was honoured in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the fashion industry and was presented with a sculpture that was specially crafted for GCU by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott, who created The Kelpies horse head sculptures in Falkirk.

She congratulated graduates on their academic achievements and gave advice on how to continue that success.

“You need to have a vision, create a differential and execute it to the highest standard,” said Ms Shepherdson.

Alumni Achievement Award Winner Mr Dawson studied Engineering at Glasgow College of Technology, a founding institution of GCU, and graduated in 1982. He received his award in recognition of his achievement in, and contribution to, engineering and industrial business management.

He told graduates: “Adversity is part of life and comes in many different shapes and guises. But you shouldn't dwell on what's happened but think about what's next."

GCU London is a professional postgraduate campus of GCU, offering a range of MBA and MSc courses, including International Fashion Marketing, Luxury Brand Marketing, Banking and Finance, Risk Management, International Human Resource Management and Construction Management.
