June Grindley

We are putting the spotlight on some of our amazing 2020 Alumni of the Year recipients and the critical role they have played during the pandemic.  Next up is 1989 Business Studies graduate, June Grindley, who is the Founder, Autism Practitioner and a Director in Creatovators CIC, a Social Enterprise working with people on the Autistic Spectrum and their families. They provide 1-2-1 sessions, LEGO®-based Therapy Sessions, a monthly Playscheme for the whole family, training and consultations.  Below June tells us a bit more about her role:

“I lead and manage the company (including a team of 20 volunteers), do the 1-2-1 sessions, run the LEGO®-based Therapy Sessions and the Playscheme, lead the training for professionals who work with people on the spectrum and do the consultations. I am also involved in groups for carers and the local council’s autism strategy. Leading involves ensuring we are meeting our aim of helping people on the autistic spectrum and their families and, along with other board members, looking to the future. Managing involves the day-to-day running of the business; and service involvement includes helping clients by creating and implementing strategies and programmes.

“When lockdown occurred, I moved Creatovator’s services online, and started sharing tips, advice and resources on Social Media, by phone and webinars at no cost. I organised for packages to be put together and sent to families who attend our Playscheme, and arranged for one of the volunteers to text them to find out how they were. I changed our Playscheme to an outside model and we’ve been operating since September. I’ve also helped family, friends, the volunteers in the Social Enterprise and a small group which my husband and I lead through church.”

Thank you June for the phenomenal work you are doing.  You are a very worthy addition to our esteemed Alumni of the Year recipients.
