Reader in Sociology and Social Policy
Stephen Sinclair joined GCU in 2006, initially as a Research Fellow in the Scottish Poverty Information Unit. Previously he was a Principal Research Officer in the Scottish Government, and before joining the civil service, a Research Associate at the Centre for Research into Socially Inclusive Services at Heriot-Watt University, and a Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. He studied for his PhD at the University of Kent (1999), having completed an M.Phil. at the University of Oxford (1991). His undergraduate studies were at the University of Strathclyde (1989). His principal research interests include poverty, deprivation and social exclusion. He has also undertaken research on various aspects of financial exclusion, social innovation and public service reform.
He is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, a member of the Economic and Social Research Council peer review college, a referee for over a dozen international academic journals and a former executive committee member of the Social Policy Association. He is also a member of the Child Poverty Action Group’s Policy and Scottish Committees.
