Study Abroad/Language Options

You can choose to study French, German, Spanish or Italian in all four years of the degree. We offer classes from Introductory Level (Little or no prior knowledge) and up through Professional Language and Advanced Language for Business.

In year 3, you have an opportunity to study aboard for either a semester or an entire year at one of our partner institutions in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Slovenia, Turkey, Finland, Denmark, Australia, USA or Canada.

Assessment Methods

Our approach to the learning, teaching and assessment of our students is tailored to the needs of business and so we adopt a wide range of learning and teaching methods to ensure, not only that our students will gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of the business world but also develop their intellectual and personal skills.

Teaching Methods

The different learning and teaching methods we use are designed to ensure that the programme is both vocationally relevant and academically challenging. As our students progress through their degree, they are assessed on their ability to advise companies on such issues as entering foreign markets and then present their findings to both our academic staff and representatives of the companies involved At Honours level, a dissertation which assesses their ability to carry out independent research of both an academic and practical nature, is required of all of our students.

Our supporting material includes the use of podcast, webinars, which are internet based seminars, discussion boards and learning group fora. We regularly invite guest speakers to give our students an up-to-date employer and industry perspective.

Our students have the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student during their time with us; either through our extensive network of Erasmus partners across Europe or to our other partner institutions in Canada, USA, Australia and Latin-America. Students who don’t take up this option can study a work based internship module as an academic subject.

Employment Details

Students on this programme have the opportunity to specialise in a number of business related areas which is recognised in the mane of the award they receive upon graduation. Named award specialisms include finance, economics, events management risk management or one of the four main European languages. These awards are specifically designed to ease our graduates into those business sectors and is seen by our graduates as a key step in enhancing their employability.

As befits the nature of the programme, our graduates enter a wide variety of sectors and industries. Recent graduates have gone on to work for both the Scottish and UK Governments, the European Civil Service, financial services and banks, the retail sector and the hospitality and tourism sectors.

We have recently instigated an employers’ forum where our students are invited to join visiting employers and cover such topics as career choice and maximising employability through skills development. Future sessions will focus on the role of languages as an attribute for successful graduate job search.
