Minimum Entry Requirements
- Normally a UK Honours degree 2:2 or equivalent or Graduate Diploma (or equivalent: NARIC or professional) and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in industry OR
- Candidates with over 5 years relevant experience (two years of which must be at managerial level) but with no first degree will also be considered on an RPL basis
Where appropriate, students with an unrelated degree, and work experience, wishing to move in to this area will be considered. The overriding consideration will be the Programme Leader’s assessment of the student’s ability to undertake the Programme successfully.
The university will consider admission to the programme on the basis of prior learning and/or prior experiential learning.
Such learning may be certificated, for example, by Chartered Management Institute or un-certificated and could include considerable industrial experience in the sector at a management level.
Applicants in this situation are advised to consult with the Programme Leader at an early stage in the application process.
Programme Description
The programme focuses on the advanced study of organisations, their management and the changing external context in which they operate. By contextualising core management principles and practice with an understanding of the varied business functions and their inter-relationships, we aim to develop graduates who are action oriented, proactive leaders who rapidly deliver benefits their organisations and the sectors within which they work.
Students on our MBA are required to have a minimum of 3 years managerial experience. This experience plays a critical role in the learning experience of the individual and the group. Throughout the programme you will be expected to demonstrate the relevance and application of your own experiences to the theories and concepts being explored and discussed. This integration between theory and practice helps develop your vocational knowledge and capitalise on your current and prior experiences.
Our philosophy is to provide students with the academic excellence and industry relevance to become competent and capable managers. We offer small classes, a mix of local and international students, relevant teaching by top-level Professors with both research and professional experience and regular guest lecturers from industry.
You can start either in Sept or Jan. This programme is also available on a part-time basis.

Assessment is by a variety of methods including case studies, essays, projects, reports and a research based dissertation which allows students a chance to show the range of their abilities. The dissertation/consultancy project is an important part of overall assessment. It enables students to build on research and other skills attained within the programme.
MODULE DETAILS
Strategic Marketing and Brand Management
The module will address the broad issues of marketing as concept and practices, establishing the base for a more detailed consideration of marketing through the auspices of branding. In so doing, it will considers the activities, processes and components of strategic brand management in an international context , exploring the contribution of brands to market / business development, to the creation of competitive advantage and the establishment and sustenance of distinctiveness.
Economics for Managers
This module is designed to equip students with a set of analytical tools and concepts from economic theory that can be applied atMasters’ level and used to facilitate students’ understanding of other cognate Business Disciplines. It focuses on the concept of the Common Good embedded in economic theory through the analysis of efficiency, equity, market failure and the measurement of individual and social welfare and introduces an international macroeconomic dimension
Strategy Process
This module explores the process of formulating strategy for innovative organisations. The context, constraints, strategic options and environmental issues are examined to provide an understanding of the nature and boundaries of the construction and development of strategies and strategic management. Through an understanding of the different schools of strategy, the module examines the strategy process from both a prescriptive and emergent perspective, and from the resource or value school perspective, the module also examines the positioning or environmental school of thinking to provide a holistic overview of the complexity surrounding the development of an organisation’s strategy.
Human Resource Strategies: Formulation and Evaluation
This module encourages critical analysis of key contemporary human resource (HR) management and development issues confronting organisations in the 2010s. Within a model framework for formulating, implementing and evaluating HR strategy, students will be exposed to theories and practices relating to HR strategies which will enable them effectively critique the contribution of HR strategy at organisational, national and international levels.
Change and Leadership
Essential to organisations today, this module develops a critical appreciation of organisational change and its leadership implications and demands. In doing so, this module considers multiple perspectives of change and leadership ranging from traditional to emerging alternatives.
Corporate Financial Management
This module focuses on the corporate finance and capital markets, emphasizing the financial aspects of managerial decisions. The module touches on all areas of finance, including the valuation of real and financial assets, risk management, the trade-off between risk and expected return, and corporate financing and dividend policy. The module delivery draws very heavily on empirical research to help guide managerial decisions. It is heavily focused on the firm, and on understanding fully how different firm’s financial decision may impact on the firm’s immediate and long-term future.

The module focuses on the implementation of strategy by public, private and no-for-profit organisations in an international context. Theoretical perspectives of strategy in action form the basis of analysis of the process of implementation. The module assists students in understanding strategic issues using appropriate frameworks to critically evaluate how organisations undertake actions to implement strategy based on informed strategic decisions. The theoretical underpinnings will also facilitate analysis and evaluation of strategies for competitive advantage in a global market environment.
Option Module
A number of modules are offered each year and this allows students to select an area of study of particular interest to them. The modules available each year are subject to change.
Research Methods, Consultancy and Project
This module consists of two elements: an initial taught element focused on management research and consultancy design followed by the research project or applied consultancy project. The taught element aims to introduce students to the nature of research and the business consultancy processes involved in carrying out research and consultancy in an area of management, business or enterprise. The module prepares students for applying their investigative skills and knowledge to a Dissertation or Consultancy project, in an organisational or industry context.

We have a dedicated Careers Tutor who is in regular contact with employers, students and graduates concerning careers opportunities. Students are given support and guidance with securing both temporary and permanent employment. They are also encouraged to attend the careers events, organised by the Careers Service and the Careers Tutor, which run throughout the year.
