Overview

The Doctor of Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) (DPT) is a full-time programme delivered using innovative teaching methods to assist and contextualise learning.

The overall aim of this programme is to develop analytical, evaluative, creative and skilled physiotherapists with an entrepreneurial mindset, who are responsive to professional, social and cultural change. Our doctoral graduates will be confident, transformational, responsible and empathetic practitioners, leaders and global citizens able to implement evidence-based practices within public and private services, effectively evolving and influencing innovative local, national or global areas of practice and research.

This programme leads to qualification as a physiotherapist, eligible to apply for HCPC registration as a practicing physiotherapist. Modules are delivered by experienced tutors, researchers and invited academic and clinical lecturers who are specialists in their area of expertise.

Our close links with clinical and research specialists allow our students access to the most up-to-date clinical, research and professional expertise within the university and practice settings.

The DPT is unique in integrating practice and research and is designed to produce graduates who are equipped to meet the current and future needs and challenges of health and social care practice and research.

Post-registration graduates can work in a variety of areas such as private practice, public sector settings such the hospitals, GP clinics or health promotion services, industry, vocational rehabilitation, schools, nursing homes, hospices, community-based rehabilitation programs, education and research centres.

Graduate prospects

Many of our graduate and postgraduate students go on to gain employment in other countries. Recently students have obtained physiotherapy posts in Europe, New Zealand, Canada, USA and Hong Kong and Singapore. Applications to some of these counties require an application that reviews the course specifics and the individual student profile. You may also need to undertake additional exams.
