School of Engineering and Built Environment

The School of Engineering and Built Environment has strong links with colleges and we welcome over 350 students from college each year.

We offer an extensive range of programmes with advanced entry options into year 2 (with HNC) or year 3 (with HND). Our degrees are developed in collaboration with colleges to ensure a smooth transition between college and university and to meet the needs of industry.

Professional links and accreditation

We have excellent links with professional bodies and develop our programmes in line with their accreditation standards.  The professional accreditation offered on our programmes include the British Computer Society (BCS), the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Key facts about the School

The School has more than 200 academic staff in its three departments and have spent over £1.5m on research and knowledge transfer infrastructure in the last 3 years. We work with many companies to host an annual Student Prize Giving Ceremony, celebrating our talented students across various levels and are especially proud of our industry links, ensuring an industry standard of learning in our curriculum, which is reflective to the changing needs of the labour market.

Part-time and placement opportunities

Many of the programmes have the opportunity to undertake an industrial placement, take part in an Erasmus study exchange overseas or continue with degree studies on a part-time basis. The School of Engineering and Built Environment offers flexible study options for work-based learning and to support full-time and part-time students.

EBE's Learning Development Centre (LDC) can provide you with the support and help you need to enhance your learning experience here. Students are welcome to visit the centre to seek assistance related to their studies. The LDC also delivers workshops to assist students with mathematics, academic writing and study skills.
