What is the Student Experience Project?
The Student Experience Project (SEP) was first established in 2001 and is a longitudinal university-funded project within the Centre for Research in Lifelong Learning (CRLL). SEP has undertaken a broad range of research activities and generated invaluable data about our students, their experiences and key factors associated with retention, progression and withdrawal. In a recent enhancement-led institutional review, the QAA commented that the data produced by SEP “is of a very high quality” (QAA, 2006: 28).
Current SEP activities include an in-depth study of HN students and the further analysis and dissemination of the 2007 student web survey - a survey which has generated an up-to-date and extensive dataset on the experiences and opinions of a broad cross-section of students in all schools and at all levels of study.
What Students have to say about their Experience
“I think the fact that I enjoy the course and it's interesting and relates to experiences I have had when I was working I can see the use of it and realise that possibly I'll get a good job at the end of it and that is what motivates me to keep going” (Andrew 21-25 year old third year student at Glasgow Caledonian)
“It was actually dead easy [to make friends at Glasgow Caledonian] because in the first couple of days they did make you get into groups and get to know the people and some of the people I met in the first couple of days are people I am friends with now and I am in third year at university so the university and the things they did in the first week did make it very easy for us to make friends” (Sophie 19-20 year old third year student at Glasgow Caledonian)
“I definitely think the whole life-style is such that the whole experience is good being able to plan your own work when it's needed meeting new friends, yeah I definitely enjoyed the whole experience” (Frank 21-25 year old third year student at Glasgow Caledonian)
