About the Service
The Glasgow Caledonian Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Service was launched in September 2008. Both the Scottish Government and Glasgow Caledonian University have Wellbeing visions for 2015 which include holistic, mental health services available at point of need.
Students use the drop-in service or make an appointment as required. In this way they are seen quickly and appointments accommodate busy university life.
Students self-refer, sometimes at the suggestion of a concerned member of staff. All sessions are confidential and follow-up appointments can be booked at a later date thus offering flexible ongoing support to those students who need it.
The Mental Health and Wellbeing team consists of four professionals with a variety of experience in education, the NHS and the voluntary sector. The service works closely with internal and external partners and can refer students on as required.
Mental health is not just about illness, it is also about health promotion, prevention and early intervention. The Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Service hopes to continue being a positive part of the learning community that helps Glasgow Caledonian students flourish in every aspect of their lives.
'I had been in problem ...due to the situation in my country. Day by day I was getting deeper and deeper and in October it increased so much that it became very difficult for me to sleep and concentrate on my studies. Since then, I have started feeling better, because, at least someone is listening to me..... Now, I don't keep things in my heart as I used to be doing because my friends have never understood me. Now I express my mind and my heart, and I'm feeling very Well. And I can now sleep good and enjoy my time with friends.' International Student November 2009
'Insightful to my clustered thoughts and emotions, easy to realise what I'm really thinking.' Disability referral December 2009
'I felt very looked after and welcomed.' January 2009

'The service helped me to understand I was doing too much on top of my uni work. Helped me sort out the problems, private and at uni.' March 2009
