New Employer Presentation: Agile Solutions Graduate Programme 2012

Agile Solutions Ltd is a data integration and business intelligence consultancy based in Glasgow. They are looking to recruit final year students from IT & Maths related disciplines to train as consultants and work with UK and european based clients (which include RBS, ING, BSkyB and Sainsburys). Working for Agile offers incentives, performance based promotion opportunities, formal training and certification in their partners’ software, including IBM Netezza, Informatica and SAP Business Objects.

GCU Traverse Wall
Get active on the new Traverse Wall at GCU, located next to the Students’ Association Building. It’s free to use on a first come basis, come along, challenge a friend and have some fun. The wall is 13.5m long and has over 30 route options.
Need some help with your academic writing style?
Gerry Cambridge is GCU’s Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow. Poet and writer Gerry provides a free and confidential service aimed at helping students with their writing skills and confidence. From offering advice to punctuation and grammar to advising on planning, organisation and style, Gerry is happy to help with any issues that you are having.
Please note that Gerry does not offer a proof writing service.

Drop in Sessions for School of Engineering and Built Environment students.
The School of Engineering and Built Environment Learning Development Centre will be holding Drop-in Sessions for Academic Writing and ICT Support.
When: Every Monday, 1pm - 3pm, (Jan 16th - April 2nd 2012)
Where: George Moore Building, 5th Floor, Room M541
As a student you are required to use Information and Communications Technology, and effective writing strategies for reports, essays and dissertations.
If you would like help with:
- Academic writing for essays, reports and presentations
- Citing and referencing
- Databases
- Poster presentations
- Spreadsheets
- SPSS
- Word processing
Come along to M541 and talk to an advisor for 10 minutes.

Forthcoming Employer Presentations Hosted by GCU Careers Service
Our highly popular employer recruitment presentations continue with three more companies visiting GCU Careers Service over the next two weeks.On Wednesday 16th November, Hays Recruitment will be highlighting graduate opportunities for those keen to develop their career in personnel recruitment. Our next presentation takes place on Monday 21st November and will feature the National Australia Bank who will be highlighting current and future graduate opportunities and internship positions. Finally Morgan Stanley will be returning for their second visit this term on Wednesday 23rd November to once again highlight both the graduate and internship opportunities available with the company. The first session in October was oversubscribed, so make your reservation now while there are still places available. Don’t forget that Morgan Stanley are also hosting an open evening at their Glasgow Offices on Monday 28th November between 6-8pm to highlight their internship opportunities.

Interested in Teaching English as a Foreign language?
The Careers Service is pleased to confirm that Oxford TEFL will be hosting a presentation in M015 on Thursday 27th October at 5pm. Oxford TEFL are among the most highly regarded teacher training institutions in Europe – if you are interested in travel and working abroad, keen to experience new cultures and want to learn a new language while earning money, then come along to this presentation in the Careers Service which will outline the opportunities available via Oxford TEFL.
Training courses are run at centres in Barcelona, London, Prague & Cadiz and last for 4 weeks. It is aimed at people who have never taught before, but it is also ideal for teachers with some classroom experience, but without a recognised teaching qualification. Information for students regarding new locker procedure from September 2011
The procedure for obtaining a locker is changing. Students will now need to email the mailroom inbox on mailroom@gcu.ac.uk, with “Lockers” as the subject heading. In the email, please state your name, course, matriculation number and in which building and floor you would prefer a locker. A reply will be sent to notify you which locker you have been allocated and also instructions on what to do next.
The buildings and floors lockers are available, are located as follows :George Moore Building – First Floor
- Charles Oakley Building – Ground Floor, First Floor and Second Floor
- Hamish Wood Building – Second Floor ,Third Floor and Fifth Floor
Should a locker not be available in the area you requested, we will offer an alternative locker from what is available. Please note that we do not provide padlocks on campus and you are taking the locker at your own risk i.e. the University will not compensate if longings are stolen
To ensure that students are assigned lockers in plenty of time, please email the Mailroom week commencing Monday 12th September 2011. Please do not e-mail before this date. If anyone has any questions please contact the mailroom on the above e-mail address or by calling 0141 331 3781/3750.
17.01.11 The Careers Service has moved!
GCU Careers Service has now moved from level 0 in the Saltire Centre – you can now find us in our new location
on the Ground Floor of the George Moore Building in M015.
- Call in anytime between 9am-5pm and view our extensive range of careers literature & takeaway material
- come along to one of our daily Drop-In sessions and have an informal chat with one of our careers advisers
– there’s no need to make an appointment, it’s first come, first served! Although normally held between
12-2pm every day, Drop-In times can vary so please check our website first, particularly before travelling from
off-campus
- For a more in-depth guidance interview to discuss any careers related concerns that you may have, make an
appointment via telephone on 0141 273 1000 and then come along to M015 on the ay of your interview

Nightline
Nightline is the only student support service open all night (Mon-Fri, 7pm till 7am). The service is completely
confidential, non-judgemental, non-advisory, and we don’t ask for your name or tell you what to do – we will
even call you back if you're low in credit. So whether it’s a bit of information you need (taxi number, bus timetable,
the answer to the pub quiz question!) or you would like to talk to someone (feeling down?) you can speak to
nightline. Call on 0141-55-22-555.
24 Hour Computer Lab and Group Study Rooms
The 24 Hour Computer Lab is now open on the Ground Floor of the Students’ Association Building. Students
will need to use their Student Card in the evenings and at weekends to swipe into this facility.
Students can also book a Group Study Room in the Student Social Space (Ground Floor, Students’ Association
Building). There are 3 rooms that can be booked for a 2 hour period for group study. Email
sastudyrooms@gcu.ac.uk to book.
