Why become a Widening Participation and Outreach Student Mentor?

Becoming a Widening Participation and Outreach Student Mentor offers a fantastic opportunity to not only give back to your local community but also to develop essential core and employability skills. As a Widening Participation and Outreach Student Mentor, you will experience increased engagement with your course and the wider university. Here's what you can expect:

  • Widening participation: Work with a range of diverse groups, including local nursery, primary and secondary school students and their families, senior phase pupils and college students considering higher education
  • Role model and GCU representative: Act as a role model and representative for your course and GCU, delivering activities that will boost confidence, core skills, and lifelong learning aspirations.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds, but we're particularly keen to hear from:

  • GCU undergraduate students
  • Graduates from GCU Connect, School Connect, Caledonian Club, or Advanced Higher Hub schools
  • Students who have progressed to GCU from study at college
  • Students who have progressed to GCU from a Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP)
  • Students from FOCUS West schools
  • Care experienced students.

To become a Widening Participation and Outreach Student Mentor, download the job description and complete the application form before Monday, 29 April at 10am.

  • On-campus interviews are scheduled to take place between Thursday 16, Tuesday 21, and Wednesday, 22 May.
  • If selected, you must also be available to complete mandatory Student Mentor training on Wednesday, 29 May.
