PLEASE NOTE: Glasgow Caledonian University does not use just one referencing system, different subject/professional areas use different systems and styles within these systems. Before deciding whether you are using Harvard or Numeric, you should consult your module handbooks and the tutor who set the work, as well as this website.

If you are submitting an article to a journal/serial/periodical or writing a book you should take advice from the editor (often found in ‘notes for contributors’ in journals and on publishers’ websites).

Once you have decided on the system, keep to it throughout.
