How do I reset my domain password?
If you are unable to login to any of the following systems you need to reset your domain password.
You can reset your domain password via one of the options below:
- Use the self-service password reset feature inside My Caledonian (ideal if you're off campus)
- Use the self-service password reset terminals located in the Saltire Centre
- Call the IT Helpdesk and verify your identity via your security word challenge
- Visit the Base with your Student ID card to be visually verified by Base staff
Resetting your domain password will affect all systems listed above.
Domain passwords are only valid for 90 days. If you have not logged into a University PC in over 90 days (3 months), it's possible that your password has expired and needs reset.
Students who visit campus
If you visit campus regularly and use the University PCs you will be prompted when your password is due to expire. When this happens, you can change your password from any University PC. Click here for information.
If you do not change your password within the 90 days, you will not be able to access GCULearn, Registration, ISC, or the secure print/copy devices until you reset your domain password.
If you are unable to log in to any of the above systems, you can use the password reset options 2, 3 or 4 listed above.
Students who do not visit campus
If you do not visit campus on a regular basis (placement work, distance learner etc), you will not receive the same prompts as above, however, your domain password will still expire every 90 days.
If you are unable to log in to any of the above systems, you should use the password reset options 1 or 3 listed above.
Please note you cannot change, or personalise, your domain password while off-campus. If you want to pick a personal password, you must visit campus. Click here for information on changing your domain password.
Access to student email and GCULearn (for both on-campus and off-campus students)
Email
The student email system works slightly differently. If you have not logged into University PCs in over 90 days, you will still be able to access the student email system. The student email system allows you to continue to login without having to reset your password. This is designed to allow graduated students continued access to their email accounts once they've left University.
If you've not visited campus in over 90 days and you can still login to your student email but you cannot log in to GCULearn, then you need a domain password reset.
When you do reset your domain password, your email password will change to match.
GCULearn
The GCULearn system will not allow you access if your password has expired. If you attempt to login with an expired password you will get the following error message:
Could not login. Valid authentication credentials were not provided.
If you enter the wrong password repeatedly, you risk locking out your domain account. If you are unsure of your GCULearn login details, use one of the options listed above to reset your domain password.
Information on Registration
Just before the start of term, new and continuing students will receive joining letters from Academic Registry. The letter explains how to register for the new session. We will also send you a copy of the letter by email.
New students will receive their username in the letter. For security reasons we will send a separate password letter a few days later. This is your domain password. It will also allow you access to My Caledonian. If we have your email address, we will send you a copy of the letter by email. The email will tell you your username and password.
Returning students will not receive a password from Academic Registry. As a returning student, you should use your domain password to register. Remember though, that your domain password expires every 90 days. If you've not logged into a University PC in the last 90 days, your domain password has expired. You can reset your domain password by using any one of the options listed above.
Further information on registration can be found here.
Can't log into Registration?
New students: use option 1 listed above.
Returning students: use options 1, 2, 3 or 4 listed above.
