Electronic equipment loan agreement
These are the conditions for borrowing electronic equipment from us. Please read each one carefully, as it is important that you understand and keep to all of them.
Condition and length of loan
- You must show us your matriculation card each time you want to borrow electronic equipment.
- We lend on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.
- You may borrow up to three pieces of equipment at a time.
- You must return equipment to The Base on level 0 of the Saltire Centre, on or before its return date and time. If it is returned late, or is not in good working order and condition, we will have to charge a fine or the cost of repairing or replacing it.
- You may borrow equipment for up to 24 hours, unless The Base will be closed when it is due back. In that case you must return it before The Base closes.
Fines
- We charge fines of 50p per hour or part of an hour for late returns. The maximum fine (not the charge for loss or damage) for laptops is £11 and for audiovisual equipment £5.
- Your borrowing rights will be suspended if you have unpaid fines or charges of more than £10.
- When you return electronic equipment, a member of The Base staff will give it a quick check. If it is damaged or parts are missing, we may charge you for the cost of repair, or replacement if repair is not possible or too expensive.
- IT support staff will later check the equipment more fully. We may charge you for damage or missing parts discovered at this stage. Again, we will charge replacement costs if repair is not possible or too expensive.
- If you lose electronic equipment or it is stolen from you, you will have to pay for its replacement, as well as any fines due up to the date you reported the loss or theft.
Computer laptops
- The software installed on the computer laptops we lend is licensed to us and should not be copied or transferred. You should not load any software onto our laptops.
- Any personal data or files saved onto the hard drive of a computer laptop will be deleted each time it is shutdown. It is your responsibility to save your work onto a suitable removable device such as a Memory Key or USB Flash drive.
Care of equipment
- You are responsible for our electronic equipment all the time it is on loan to you. You must take proper care to protect it from theft, damage and other risks. This includes making sure you never leave it unattended or in an unsafe place, even in our buildings.
- You must report any theft or loss of, or damage to, electronic equipment to The Base (in person or by telephone on 0141 273 1000), and, if necessary, to the police. You must report theft on campus to University Security (0141 331 3787). You must co-operate fully with any university or police enquiry.
