Data protection statement
We
collect your personal information from external sources, for example
UCAS, referees, employers and others. We use the information to
carry out our everyday business practices. We handle all personal
information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Where
required by law, we will disclose personal information without your
consent.
We will only release your personal information to any other external
body if you give us your permission. To do this you must complete
an Authorisation
for Release of Personal Data form (pdf), it is also available
from Academic Registry. You
don't need to complete this form if you have signed a release declaration
for those requesting the information. For example, as part of a
job application form.
All personal information that you have disclosed can be used for the legitimate purposes of the University and can be released without your permission to:
- Student Loans Company
- Higher Education Statistical Agency
- Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)
- Local Education Authorities
- Northern Ireland Library Boards
- Police
- Judiciary Bodies
- Immigration Authorities
- Home Office
- Scottish Funding Council
- University Debt Controllers
- Other educational establishments and academic partners (as appropriate)
- Local Authorities (in relation to Council Tax exemption)
- Governments and employers who are sponsoring you (attendance, assessment and progression
information only)
