The most recent display exploring victory in Europe in 1945 has featured in several events surrounding the commemoration of the end of hostilities in Europe sixty years ago. Including; Dunlop and Lugton Senior Citizens Association World War Two Anniversary Lunch, November 2005. Kevin was invited to display both print-based and three dimensional items at Glasgow's Scotland Street School Museum's annual re-union for former pupils in September of 2005. (It is worth mentioning that the collection has a number of three dimensional items held off-site that are available for displays, talks, projects etc.) Following a meeting with BBC Scotland's Learning Project Manager, Catherine
Garvie it was decided that the collection be involved in a joint display
with the BBC Peoples War Project at R.A.F. Leuchars Air Show, October
2005. The collection provided print-based images and three dimensional
items that went along side 28 chosen stories from the People's War web-site.
The event was an excellent outreach opportunity. As a result Kevin was
able to provide information to Broxburn Primary School on rationing and
the Blitz. The following message was received from a pupil; 'I'm just saying that I received the parcel that you sent me. It will be a great help with our project on WW2. Thank you very much from all of p7b'. We hope that you enjoy the two on-line displays. The first display features the wartime letters of Gunner Frank O'Brien (shortly to be featured in writer Midge Gillies new novel 'Waiting for Hitler'). The second display has now run for two years to co-inside with Glasgow Caledonian University's fourth year history module; 'Hitler's war : the Third Reich, German Society and the Second World War, 1939-1945'. It was decided to put this on-line to make it more accessible to students.
