PiL Osteoporosis Prevention or Cure – Your Diet Can Help The BMJ report that calcium supplements may increase risk of heart attack by 30% (click here for more information).

Osteoporosis Prevention or Cure (ref:1001) recommends that 'eating a diet rich in calcium is the best thing you can do to help or prevent osteoporosis'. This reiterates guidance from The National Osteoporosis Society that people should 'aim to get the calcium that they need from their diet to help build stronger bones. If you get all of the calcium that you need from your diet, and adequate vitamin D from exposure to sunshine, then a supplement will not be necessary.' Click here for more information.

Update noted via the Food Standards Agency that:

'As a precaution, toddlers and young children between 1 and 4.5 years old should not have rice drinks as a replacement for cows’ milk, breast milk, or infant formula. ...This is both on nutritional grounds and because such substitution can increase their intake of inorganic arsenic, which should be kept as low as possible.'
