The School of Life Sciences recognises that the need to continue learning throughout your career is a necessity in today’s working environment. Not only is there the need to keep up-to-date with the latest topics within your own specialist areas, you can also continue your studies to help with future career promotion.
The Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences offers a range of accredited short courses to meet the needs of the Health Service, employers and professional bodies. These include Diabetes Care and Diabetes Management for Primary Health Care Professionals.
The Department has the only UKAS accredited food testing laboratory in Scotland, which is used for REHIS food safety courses.
The Department also runs forensic courses on topics including DNA, toxicology and facial recognition It also offers a range of short courses in Molecular Techniques for the Life Sciences Professional.
The Department of Vision Sciences, in collaboration with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) has developed a range of CPD courses including Therapeutic Prescribing for Optometrists, ‘Lost for Words’ - a one-day workshop on communication and communication disorders - and Binocular Vision.
The Department of Psychology, working with the Argyll and Clyde Domestic Abuse Training Consortium has an accredited short course in ‘Responding to Domestic Abuse’ for practitioners working with domestic abuse.
The Department of Psychology also offers a range of counselling psychology courses delivered with the University of Strathclyde called the Psychological Therapies Knowledge Exchange Programme. The Department is also working in collaboration with NHS Scotland’s School of Forensic Mental Health to develop a new series of Masters level modules commencing with “Risk Assessment and Management”.
