Research RAE

RAE2008

All three divisions of the School – Biological & Biomedical Sciences, Vision Sciences and Psychology - gained ‘4’ grades at the previous Research Assessment Exercise (RAE2001), giving a firm foundation on which to build for the RAE2008 submission.

For RAE2008 the School of Life Sciences made submissions to two Units of Assessment:

  • UoA 12 - Allied Health Professions and Studies- Biomedical and Vision Sciences;
  • UoA 44- Psychology.

 The profile obtained for Biomedical & Vision Sciences (Table 1), with 75% of the submission of international standard and 30% of international excellence equates to a ‘5’ rating in the previous exercise.  The average score of 2.10 is above the national profile for UoA 12 of 2.04, one of only two GCU submissions exceeding the relevant national profile.  The profile for Psychology, with 50% of the profile at international standard, also equates to a ‘5’ rating in the previous exercise.  It is also pleasing to note that no part of the two submissions was rated as unclassified.

The total volume indicators for the submissions provide further evidence of the scale, success and reputation of the School’s applied health research (Table 2).
