Computing & Creative Technologies
Welcome to the department
A very warm welcome to the Department of Computing and Creative Technologies. In my opinion, as its first Head of Department, this is one of the most exciting units of its kind in the UK and certainly one of the friendliest. Whether you are looking for a career relevant undergraduate or postgraduate course, an opportunity to enhance your existing qualifications, or a link to the knowledge and skills held by our experienced staff, you will find it in the following pages.
The modern world is a fast moving place which places an increasing reliance on IT-based products of all kinds: from the personal communication device in your pocket, through multimedia educational software, web based shopping sites, multiplayer computer games to office management tools and international business systems. All of these products have to be well conceived, designed and manufactured to succeed in a competitive market. Design and fit to purpose are now as important as function, and reliability is expected.
Thanks to the talents of our academic staff the division is able to offer its students and business clients the knowledge and expertise needed to operate in this world. We offer programmes and courses which support the general design, development (manufacture), support and marketing of innovative digital and consumer products and services, and an increasing number that focus on these issues in relation to entertainment based services such as Audio, Web and Games technologies.
Our reputation as a centre of excellence for research in entertainment and games based learning technology is growing rapidly. This research is funded, not only by academic research councils but by local and national companies who have discovered the value of working in partnership with us.
As the new Head I would like to welcome you to these pages. I hope you will find everything you need within them and look forward to seeing you in person on Campus in the not too distant future. If, for any reason, you can’t find what you’re looking for please don’t hesitate to contact us.
