About School of Engineering & Computing

The School offers undergraduate, postgraduate, professional short course training and research opportunities in the three broad areas of:

We have excellent links with professional bodies and develop our programmes in line with their accreditation standards, including the British Computer Society (BCS) and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institute of Measurement & Control (InstMC).

The School has more than 100 academics including Professors, Readers, Postdoctoral Research Fellows, and Research Assistants, and we have spent over £1.5m on research and knowledge transfer infrastructure in the last 2-3 years. We also have over 200 postgraduate and 35 PhD students from all over the world including the UK, China, France, Greece, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, and Taiwan. They are a highly valued and integral part of our academic community.

Are you up to the challenge?

Every day we are affected by computer-based systems such as mobile phones, satellite navigation systems, wind power systems, electricity generators, medical instruments, aeroplane flight decks, multi-player gesture-driven computer games. Building these systems means bringing in people from different disciplines to work together. As technologies unfold, the application possibilities are enormous but so are the challenges because systems are so complex.

We need fresh, innovative, creative and persistent minds to crack these challenges and bring these possibilities to life. We hope you’ll join us and be the future now! Find out about our engineering and computing programmes.
