Cut, Cut, Cut

Tune: Tramp, Tramp, Tramp
Chorus:
Cut, cut, cut, screams Maggie Thatcher,
Cut, cut, cut, cry all her men;
Public spending must be slashed
And the local councils bashed,
So we'll cut and cut and cut their cash again.
Once the British working man
Listened to a woman's plan;
A plan, she said, designed to set us free;
But she quite forgot to tell
When she rang th' election bell
That the "us" she meant was "them" not you and me.
So the Tories won the day
With enough support to say:
"We've a mandate for the things we plan to do."
And they cut the income tax,
Then they raked the money back
By the simple trick of doubling VAT.
Margaret Thatcher is the name,
Once of free school milk snatch fame;
She cut it then as education chief.
But she's Britain's premier now -
Watch her use her power - and how!
Snatching milk and meals as well beyond belief.
When Maggie Thatcher bears her claws
She barges on without a pause,
So the school bus went the way of milk and meals.
She just commandeered the cash
For private schools to make a splash,
While the state schools felt the crunch of Maggie's heals.
Meals on wheels and public health -
Never blessed with surfeit wealth -
Became victims of the Tory money squeeze.
Welfare services galore,
Home helps, health and many more,
Mutilated, brought the old folks to their knees.
"Own your own home," Maggie yells
Then the cost of buying swells
And the young folk can't afford the mortgage rate.
For a council house they try
"You can't get one," Tories cry,
"We're selling them as well so you're too late."
In the workshops bosses fight
Backed by Maggie's Tory might.
"Close down everything," she shrieks, "that doesn't pay;
Shut the steelworks, shut the yards,
Give the Singer men their cards -
And don't think British Leyland's here to stay!"
"Fight the miners - commie yobs -
Fight the teachers at their jobs,
Clobber everyone who's asking for a rise;
Fight the man who sweeps the street,
Knock the workers off their feet;
Very soon they're going to get a big surprise!"
Then to make our joy complete,
Maggie's promised us a treat;
Law and order she'll maintain for that's her cure.
She'll give cops and troops a rise -
A bribe of quite enormous size -
Then she'll turn them loose on us - and that's for sure!
