Dear Common

Author: Rising Son

You know what they say you live by the gun you die by the gun
So you must recognise the same ethics when you live by the tongue
Watch what you say when you're in a position where people listen
And remember there's a difference between fact and opinion
Rastafarianism doesn't promote separatism
Cos I know white women who have converted to the religion
They recognise African history as the truth so so be it
My father used to take me to Twelve Tribes meetings I used to see it
If two humans acknowledge and respect each others cultures and whatever
And they fall in love then let them be together
It every man's right to have a wife who cherishes him
No matter his ethnicity she loves every blemish in him
So when you say there should be no inter-racial relationships
You're attacking my whole existence
It's only right that I say some sh*t
That makes you a racist prick
I predict the future is mixed
Marking the end of all this racism sh*t you bi*ch

Three multi-cultural emcees from the UK didn't take lightly to rapper Common's words during a recent interview to promote his new album, Be. Common criticised blacks with dreadlocks for dating white women, stating that those men would be "going against what the dreadlocks' purpose was". Rising Son, Yungun and Doc Brown released the song Dear Common in which they respond to his extreme views. The excerpt above is Rising Son's verse.
