All Gods Were Immortal

On the eleventh September, two thousand and one,
The death planes brought New York a horror unknown.
And in Washington City, near to Pittsburgh as well,
They showed all of Mankind a picture of Hell
And as the towers crumbled to mountains of stone,
America's proud isolation had gone.
Things will never be the same there, no, never no more,
For the madmen have shaken that land to the core.
Yes, the madmen have shaken that land to the core.
In their shock and despair; in their grief and
dismay,
People crowded together to worship and pray.
Their churches were filled, their lamentations were loud
For the victims who died in that monstrous cloud.
They sing "God Bless America", faces to heaven,
But where was their god on September eleven?
For the madmen prayed too and though to us it's absurd,
Their prayers were answered, their prayers were heard.
Their prayers were answered, their prayers were heard.
So I ask where we stand now and what can it mean,
If the good god can make a just cause with such fiends?
And why does he speak to grim prophets alone
Who "interpret" his words before passing them on?
For god is man's invention, the reverse is not true,
Because all gods were immortal - and there lies the clue!
It seems clear to me, in both the west and the east,
Those who love their god most love their fellow man least!

"This was my take on the tragedy of September eleventh. I'd read about a
'Terrorist kit' which had been found in a hotel room some time after the
event. It gave instructions on how to keep a low profile; to go to and
from work a different way each day; get/steal as many false passports as
possible, etc. And then, at the end, there was a prayer to say before
setting out on their suicide mission. I couldn't imagine what kind of god
these people were praying to that would allow them to be successful on
such a mission."
