Diebold on the Fly

Author: Dennis Mansker
Tune: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles

Picture yourself at the polls in Ohio,
A Diebold machine is at your command.
It doesn't matter you're voting for Kerry,
The votes won't be counted by hand.

Ohio's vote counter was working for Bush.
A conflict of interest you'd think.
The exit polls all said that Kerry would win,
But then it all started to stink.

Diebold's on the fly with vote fraud,
Bush is getting high on vote fraud.

In many precincts the numbers were strange.
Vote tallies didn't add up.
Bush got more votes than there were people voting,
And the Dems were just told to shut up.

No point in trying to challenge the vote,
No point in going to court.
Activist judges Scalia and Tom,
Would call it like Bush versus Gore.

Diebold's getting by with vote fraud.
Bush took all the pie with vote fraud.

Electronic voting machines have been introduced in the States to avoid the kind of problems caused by antiquated punch-card systems that threw the US election into chaos and conflict in 2000. Critics claim they leave no paper trail to allow for a manual recount, and argue that they are too easily tampered with. Diebold Election Systems dominate the market.

"The Diebold Corp is one of the biggest manufacturers of voting machines, and the President of Diebold is on record as saying to George W. Bush early in the election cycle that he would see that Bush won Ohio in 2004. Plus the Ohio Secretary of State, the man ultimately responsible for the election results in Ohio, one Ken Blackwell, was simultaneously the head of Bush's Ohio campaign (conflict of interest, anyone?)

So, despite the fact that the exit polls all showed Kerry ahead, the end result of the machine tally (and that is all there was because Diebold, although perfectly capable of making bank teller machines that can spit out a receipt, was apparently ignorant of the technology when it came to ballots) gave the election to Bush."
