Dear President Bush
Author: Ian Davison
Tune: Three Nights and a Sunday by Matt McGinn
Oh George, we want to help you stop the war (Stop the war)
Oh George, we want to help you stop the war (Stop the war)
Say it's our fault: that's the plan. You can still be Superman
Oh George, we want to help you stop the war (Stop the war)
Just make us your excuse to call it off (Call it off)
The people's hearts are getting far to soft
You can say you're still as tough. It's only us who've had enough
Just make us your excuse to call it off
Just blame the anti-climax all on us
We don't remember why the war was 'just'
You can say you couldn't win it 'cause our hearts were never in it
Blame the anti-climax all on us
Say we couldn't stand the sight of blood
Say we couldn't stomach fire and flood
Say we just can't stand the thought of people burned and gassed and shot
Just say we couldn't stand the sight of blood
Say we didn't want the world on fire
Say we're gettin' pretty sick-and-tired
They'll believe you're still as ruthless, though you're gettin' old
and toothless
Say we didn't want the world on fire
Use us as your scapegoat, President Bush
Say we couldn't face the final push
No one ever needs to catch you being anything but macho
Use us as your scapegoat, President Bush
Repeat Verson One (and again)

"A constant feature of political song (and especially when passed on by
word of mouth) is the re-writing of songs for new situations; but
occasionally a song can be re-used in a new situation without altering it
at all. This one was written at the turn of the year when President Bush
Senior was keen to attack Iraq, but the song still fitted the second
attack threatened by President Bush Junior a full decade later."
