As the University of the Common Good, Glasgow Caledonian University is committed to a culture of positive physical and mental health, which enables students and staff to thrive and achieve their full potential. We proactively support the well-being of our people and promote a healthy learning and working environment.

These pages describe how we are making well-being a priority for all our staff and students, through our strategic framework on Health and Wellbeing. But if you are currently in crisis, or you are concerned about someone else who is, please read on for ways to access help and support.

Feel in Crisis?

It is not uncommon for people to feel at a crisis point and you are doing the right thing by seeking support and advice. If the feeling is overwhelming or you feel so distressed that you have thoughts of harming yourself or you feel you are at risk of harming others then please reach out for help:

  • Phone or visit your GP as soon as possible to tell them how you are feeling.
  • If your GP surgery is closed, call NHS 24 on 111
  • You can contact Samaritans on 116 123
  • Call Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87
  • Call HOPELineUK on 0800 068 41 41 or text 07786209697
  • Contact SHOUT by texting 'SHOUT' to '85258' (the text is free on all major networks – if in doubt you can contact your mobile phone network before texting, or email shout with your mobile phone number and network provider at info@giveusashout.org)
  • The Stay Alive app is a suicide prevention resource for the UK, packed full of useful information and tools to help you stay safe in crisis. You can use it if you are having thoughts of suicide or if you are concerned about someone else who may be considering suicide.
