Community Health
The Department of Community Health offers a range of accredited modules, programmes and academic awards of relevance to community-based practitioners, mental health and learning disability nursing. We have developed partnerships with service provider organisations, ensuring that programmes support the development and maintenance of innovative and effective community, public health, mental health and learning disability services.
Study options
Multi-disciplinary taught masters programmes for practitioners who wish to undertake postgraduate study to enhance their career opportunities:
- MSc in Advancing Practice in Primary Care
- MSc in Community Health
- MSc in Public Health (web-delivered)
Our BSc/BSc(Hons)/PgD Community Nursing with SPQ programmes provide an opportunity for first level registered nurses to study towards the award of a Community Specialist Practitioner Qualification (SPQ) that is recordable with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. SPQ pathway options include:
- Community Children's Nursing
- Community Learning Disability Nursing
- Community Mental Health Nursing
- Community Nursing in the Home (District Nursing)
- General Practice Nursing (Practice Nursing)
- Occupational Health Nursing
- Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting & School Nursing).
Other options
Our Practice Educator study route enables first level registered nurses to attain a teaching qualification (Practice Educator) that is recordable with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
The BSc/BSc(Hons) Community Nursing offers undergraduate 'top up' degree/honours degree awards for first level registered nurses working in community settings.
The BSc/BSc(Hons) Advancing Practice in Primary Care is an interprofessional programme which has been designed to prepared appropriately qualified Health Care Professionals undertake advanced practice roles across a range of Primary Care settings.

We also offer short courses/stand-alone modules that support continuing professional development (CPD) and provide academic accreditation, including:

- Primary Care & Public Health
