Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is now open for business 24/7 with the launch of pay-as-you-go online courses aimed at companies who need to keep up to date with ever-changing developments.
The GCU Online CPD Academy was established in response to feedback from firms who were concerned that staff were missing out on vital Continuous Professional Development opportunities due to work commitments.
Now employees and employers don’t need to travel to the university to access the experts and GCU courses – they can do it on a train, in their workplace or at home.
Delegates can choose from 18 courses, such as Estimating For Construction Work, Thermal Insulation and Thermal Bridging, Working At Height and Introduction To Planning Construction Projects. Other topics include Dampness, Fire Safety and Disability, Historic Buildings and Conservation, and Traditional Buildings: Conservation and Energy Conservation.
Industry expert speakers include Duncan Cartlidge, a Chartered Surveyor with more than 30 years experience in construction. He is also the author of several books and a regular contributor to journals and RICS isurv.
Others include Graham Robertson, who started as a labourer on sites and worked his way to become UK Head of Planning for Bovis Lend Lease,
Alex Wheldon of the DVS (formerly District Valuer’s Office), Jonathan Gotelee of Purcell Miller and Tritton and John Judd of John Judd Associates
Audrey Meikle, Business Manager for School of Engineering and Built Environment, said: “We listened to companies when they said they were interested in our CPD courses but delegates couldn’t attend a particular date or take time off work due to work commitments, coupled with travelling to the university.
“Of course, the online courses will not replace traditional classroom learning and these will still be offered, but we want to provide a choice of learning which is inclusive to everyone. It also provides companies with a less expensive way to enhance employees’ CPD opportunities with courses starting at just £25.”
The courses are delivered with downloadable materials. Delegates have access to the course for 14 days and will receive a GCU-accredited certificate on completion.
