NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Director of Nursing Rosslyn Crocket has been appointed an Honorary Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).

Rosslyn has been a long time supporter of GCU’s nursing students and can offer inspiration and an unrivalled insight into the profession through a distinguished and varied career that has included roles as a district nurse, a midwife and a health visitor, before a series of promoted posts followed.

Pro Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean of Health and Life Sciences, Professor Veronica James, said: “I am thrilled that Rosslyn will be bringing her wealth of clinical and organizational experience to share with our undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral students and researchers. I greatly look forward to us working together to develop safe, modern health teams who engage with the challenges of community and hospital care in the times ahead.

“We know that Rosslyn shares our commitment to working with users and carers and this appointment ensures that we can further grow our exciting clinical academic career opportunities for nurses and allied health professionals.

“Our shared appointment of a Clinical Academic Professor of Nursing will join the teams at GCU and Greater Glasgow and Clyde and contribute by generating evidence to improve patient care while bringing experience to the students in the simulation suites and classroom.

Rosslyn trained as a registered nurse at the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow, after which she qualified as a district nurse and practiced in many areas in South Glasgow. A change of direction followed with a move to Ayrshire and Arran to study as a midwife. Rosslyn then returned to Glasgow as a district nurse for a short time before a career break to have her children.

On returning to work, after a variety of part-time positions, Rosslyn trained as a health visitor in Glasgow, then moved to Argyll and Clyde Health Board where she held a number of promoted posts and completed a degree in Health Studies and Management.

In 1994, Rosslyn moved to Ayrshire and Arran Community Mental Health NHS Trust as Director of Nursing and Community Services. In April 1999, she returned to Glasgow as Director of Nursing for the Greater Glasgow Primary Care NHS Trust, where she was also the Director with responsibility for Mental Health Services. 

Rosslyn was appointed as Nurse Director to Greater Glasgow NHS Board in July 2002, and from December 2004, Rosslyn was also Acting Chief Executive of the Greater Glasgow Primary Care Division. 

The creation of the unified NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde system in 2005 brought new career opportunities and Rosslyn was appointed Director of Women and Children’s Services and Board Nurse Director. In 2010, Rosslyn took up the post of Nursing Director at Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

“NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has a long association with GCU and I am looking forward to further cementing that relationship by contributing to the University's excellent opportunities for nurses and allied professionals.”
