You will find that to be an effective student at GCU you must be able to use the ICT services we provide to support your learning.
You will certainly use some general applications such as word processing, email and the internet. Depending on your programme, you may also use specialist technology and equipment. We can provide you with information and support in basic, general ICT as well as helping you to gain more confidence to use ICT in other ways. To get help with ICT contact your Learning Development Centre who will put you in touch with the member of staff who specialises in this.
Once you have registered for your programme at Glasgow Caledonian University and your University ICT Systems are activated you will receive an email to your personal email account inviting you to complete an Online Pre ICT Induction course. This Pre ICT Induction will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and will cover the following:
- How to get ICT Help
- Information about your password and how to fix any issues
- Student Email
- Installing Microsoft Office 2016 at home
- GCU Learn – the University’s Virtual Learning Environment
- The Student Homepage
To complete it you must undertake a couple of tasks. On completion you will receive a certificate. If you have not received this email more than 48 hours after you register, simply send an email to ICTSkills@gcu.ac.uk.
At programme Induction in September you may also be given the opportunity to engage in an ICT Induction where you will be given information on the Campus based IT Systems:
- Labs, Printers and print credit
- Accessing Microsoft Office 365
- Plagiarism, PLATO and Turnitin
- Saving on Campus
