Sport and Fitness

ARC is the University’s health and fitness facility, where all fitness levels, ages, shapes, sizes and abilities are welcome!

It has a relaxed and comfortable environment and if you’re unsure of what exercise would be best for you the staff will give you free exercise advice and  a personalised  programme to enable you to reach your fitness goals.

Something for everyone

There are two large gym areas and a range of equipment. One area caters for the more serious and advanced trainers and the other for beginners and less confident exercisers.

In addition to the gyms there are two large sports halls which host a variety of sports clubs and exercise classes. If you prefer to exercise with other people and are motivated by a more structured and instructor led session, you may be interested in some of the many exercise classes, which cater for all fitness levels.

Membership options

Various different membership and pay-as-you-go options are available with students entitled to discounted rates.

The cheapest all inclusive Arc membership for GCU students costs £110 for the whole period from September through to May but you may prefer to pay on a month by month basis (you will not be tied into any contract) in which case you need to set up the membership on-line.

Other than monthly payment schemes all memberships can be paid for upfront either on-line (the quickest way) or at arc reception (payment by cash or cheque of card)

We hope you will take advantage of the discount for GCU students and the Arc staff look forward to helping you achieve your health and fitness potential!

Sports Clubs & Societies

The Students' Association offers students a wide range of sports clubs and societies. From fencing to football, tennis to Taekwon-Do, you'll definitely find a sport or club for you.

As a GCU student you can enjoy a range of health and fitness activities all year round. It’s easy to join a sports club, become a no-contract member of the Arc: Health and Fitness or join a football, netball or tennis team and book some time on the Multi User Games Area (MUGA).

Our facilities are inviting and accessible, like the rest of our campus, and many of our students find time to volunteer with a club or help out during a sporting event - a great boost for your social life and your CV!

Relaxation and beauty therapy

Working out isn’t the only way to relax on campus, our health and beauty treatment rooms are based in the Arc and offer beauty treatments, a hairdressers and therapies including massage.
