About Us
Through our programmes, and through research and business consultancy, the School of Law and Social Sciences offers a broad range of opportunities to engage with the social and legal processes which shape our daily lives. We are strongly committed to the integration of teaching and research at the highest level, bringing together national and international knowledge, to add value to Scotland’s economic, political, social and cultural life.
The school provides opportunities for lifelong learning and international exchange programmes in the fields of law and social sciences. We are committed to engaging inclusively with the broadest community of users with the aim of developing each individual’s knowledge, intellectual capacity and professional and employment skills to their full potential.
In particular, the school seeks to help develop critical and informed citizens who, through their understanding of social and legal processes, will contribute to the fashioning of a better society.
Research
Research is a mainstream activity in the School, underpinning our knowledge transfer and commercial activities. Research themes are embedded in established Research Centres and groups, some of which involve established collaborations and/or articulate with other universities in some instances through Scottish wide research centres.
The School hosts the Scottish Poverty Information Unit, Caledonian Centre for Equality and Diversity, Organisations Work and Care Group, and the Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare.
