What’s in it?
- DVDs, videocassettes, slides, microforms and audio tapes. You can get details from the library catalogue.
Can I borrow items?
- Yes, most items are 1-week loan. Staff and students can borrow 3 items. You can also borrow some audio-visual equipment from The Base.
- DVDs are in two collections, 7 day loan which are housed in compact shelving (you can have 3 of these under the same conditons as weekly loan books), and 24 hour loan which are in the open shelving. Here are the loan conditions for the 24 hour collection:
- DVDs are issued out for a maximum of 24 hours
- If returned late, fines are charged at 50 pence per hour or part hour (up to a maximum of £11)
- They cannot be renewed
- Users can only borrow one 24 hour loan DVD at any time
Can I watch a DVD in the library?
- Yes, but you need to use a PC. You will have to start the software from your desktop - the icon looks like a traffic cone!
Can I watch a video in the library?
- Yes. There is a video player on level 0 between the two blocks of compact shelving.
What about microfiche and microfilm?
- There are two microfilm/microfiche reader-printers in the Research Collections room on Level 4 of the Saltire Centre. You can print by using a photocopy card which you can buy from the machine on level 0. Please note it is illegal to copy microfiche or microfilms from the British Library, even if they are marked 'for your retention'. Contact the Research Collections team to arrange access to this room.

Where can I use a scanner?
- There are PCs with scanners near the landmarks (big black pillars with red messages on them) on levels 2, 3 and 4. Instructions are on the scanners.
