Here is a list of questions about fines:
-
What are the fines? We charge fines on books at the rate of 30p per day. We charge 50p per hour for the late return of audiovisual eqiupment and netbooks, up to a limit of £11. Check the table below to see how book fines build up.

How can I check if I have fines? Click
My Account in the library
catalogue. Enter your library number and PIN and click
Display User Information. The Account Summary is an overview of your library account. It includes only fines due on items you have returned or renewed (known as ‘bills’). Fines on items you still have on loan are shown under the Checkouts tab. Like the Holds and Bills tabs, this appears only when necessary.
Alerts: An alert that you are Flagged means you have overdue items or bills. You are still allowed to borrow and renew. An alert that you are Blocked means your fines or bills exceed £10. You are not allowed to borrow or renew until you pay.
-
How can I pay my fines? You can pay your library fines by phone during Base opening hours. Phone the Base on 0141 273 1000 and select the option to speak to a member of staff. The minimum card payment is £10, or the full amount if your fines are less than £10. Check the table below to see how daily fines can build up.
We understand that sometimes you may not be able to return or renew books on time. If this happens, we want to make sure that we don't fine you unfairly. If you think that this has happened to you, please fill in a Fines and disputes form. There is help filling in this form. This is the only form we will accept to help us to decide whether to waive fines. You should hand it in or post it to The Base. We can't accept emails as we need a signature and maybe some other documents, such as a medical certificate.

Before books become overdue we try to send an email to your university email address. You shouldn’t rely on this email as we can’t guarantee you will get it.
-
If the system won’t let you renew a book that means it’s on hold for another reader. You need to return it on time to avoid fines.
-
If you owe more than £10 in fines you cannot use library services, including renewing your books.
-
When books are 1 day and 11 days overdue, we send overdue notices to your university email address.
