Library services for students with
disabilities
We want to provide equal access to our services
and collections for all students.
We work closely with the Disability
Service who can give you confidential advice and support.
If you contact them they can help you – and us – find the best way to meet your needs.
So, what can we offer?
Printing
If you register with the Disability
Service you may be eligible for a printing allowance.
Please contact the Disability Service if you think this applies to you.
Help getting books
For blind and visually-impaired students, those with limited mobility,
and others referred by the Disability
Service. This operates Monday – Friday.
To have books collected for you :
- check the catalogue to
make sure they are not out on loan. If they are, you can place
holds so that they are kept for you on return.
- for books on the shelves, please email your reading list to libdis@gcu.ac.uk We will contact you when the books are available for collection.
If you can’t collect your books within two days please
contact us to make another arrangement.
You can get immediate help to get up to
6 books, 9am – 3.45pm, Monday to Friday - ask at The Base.
Extensions of the 1-week loan periods
Books which we usually lend for 1 week are issued for 2 weeks to dyslexic, visually-
or hearing-impaired students, and others referred by the Disability
Service.
Other help
Ask at The Base for help using the library catalogue, or anything else you need.

There are power-assisted doors at the main entrance of the Saltire Centre for wheelchair users and users with limited mobility. The main lift is in the tower and
