Finding Journal Articles

To find journal articles in your subject area you will need to search a relevant database. 

If you need help in selecting the best database for your subject area use the list of Key Databases provided below or you can also use the database page.

Key Databases for Physiotherapy

• AMED, CINAHL,Medline and other EBSCO databases
• Proquest Health and Medical Complete
• ScienceDirect - a large database of journals published by Elsevier, covering the sciences, social sciences and health

Other useful databases

• Compendex - searchable within physiotherapy discipline
• IEEE Xplore - useful resource providing access to scientific and technical content
• The Knowledge Network - provides evidence, information, e-learning and community tools covering health and social care
• PEDro - the physiotherapy evidence database
• Physiotherapy outcomes measures database
• UK PubMed Central
• Web of Knowledge from ISI
• The Cochrane Library  this database is useful for answering very specific types of questions about the effectiveness of a treatment. It is not useful for general healthcare information such as "Are there any new drugs for asthma?" or for questions about the cause, prognosis, epidemiology or risk factors for an illness. Use other databases such as CINAHL or Medline to find this information. Don't use the Cochrane Library database to find journal articles as it only indexes reviews.

Note : Access to subject databases will require authorisation -- either your Athens password or your Institutional login. If you need to check your Athens password you can do so via My Caledonian.
