Emerald provides access to 160 full text journals and reviews from the top 300 management journals. It is the largest, most comprehensive collection of peer reviewed management journals and online support. You will need an Athens username and password. External members are not entitled to an Athens password.
Go to the Emerald home page at http://www.emeraldinsight.com/Insight/athenslogin.jsp Enter your Athens username and password and click Login>>.
You can also go to Emerald using our Databases then click on Emerald. Enter your Athens username and password and click Login >>.
The first screen offers you the quick search option. Enter the words or phrases that best describe your subject and click Search. To specify which part of the article you would like to search, click the Show more options link. Enter your search term in the Search For box. If your term is a phrase (like supply chain management), select the Phrase option to receive more relevant results
Select the fields you would like to search and click Search.
You can use Advanced Search for more refined searches. For example, if you want to find a specific article but are not sure of the exact title, you could enter one of the authors’ names in the “Author(s)” field and a couple of words from the title in the“Article Title” field.
If you use more than one search term, you can combine them using And, Or or Not)
OR widens your search – it finds articles containing any of the terms, for example, help OR assistance OR support.
AND narrows your search – it finds only articles that have all of the terms, for example, students AND stress AND management
In addition, you may limit your search by the style of the article and/or the year of publication.
* Tip – When searching try to avoid using common words on their own. For example, searching for “management” will return approximately 65,000 articles and 250,000 abstracts and reviews. Use more than one word if possible.
Search results are divided into different types of content. Each type of content has its own results list. Emerald will automatically display journal articles but you can select other types of content using the grey tabs at the top of the list.
We do not have full text access to all of the journals indexed in Emerald. If you see a small padlock icon at the top of an article, this shows that we can't get full text access from Emerald. However, we may have a subscription from a different supplier, so you should check using our serials solutions system. Click the blue article title, then 360 link check for full text. If we do not have access to the journal, you can apply for an inter library loan.
If you want to cut down your search results, you can add in more search terms. Click either the Modify Search or Search in results options at the top of the results list. This will open the advanced search screen.
Before you print, save, export or email any references, you must add them to your marked list. Click on the boxes to the right of the records to select them, then click Add to my list at the top of the screen. Emerald will then confirm that it has done this for you. To view your list, click Marked list in the menu on the left of the screen. Your list will be displayed with the options for further processing at the top.
To print, click the Print button. To email click Email and enter your email address then click send. To save click Download ASCII. This will display your marked list in ASCII format, then use the browser's save as function to sepcify your file name and destination (either student workspace or USB pen drive).
To export search results to RefWorks, click Download ASCII then save as a text file on your desktop. Log in to RefWorks (link on the A-Z database list) then click Import (in References menu). Choose Emerald from Import Filter/Data Source list and click browse to find the text file you saved. Scroll down and click Import button. Put the references into a folder to store them safely. You can View animated demonstration to show you how it is done.
If you would like to view the content of a specific journal, or find journals in a particular subject area, use Browse.
You can browse journals, reviews, abstracts and research items by:
Journal title – returns a listing of Emerald journals, including those that are archive only or Subject – displays journals within Emerald’s own subject categories.
* Tip – Selecting the My Subscribed Content/Journals option on search or browse forms limits the results to the content for which you have access to the full text.
