Books
- Books available as a paper copy at GCU Glasgow, which are not in London or available as an e-book, can be requested through an inter-site loan. Ask in person at the GCU London library or email gculondonlibrary@gcu.ac.uk with the titles required. Do not use the place hold link on the catalogue screen.
- For books not available at GCU apply for an Inter-library loan on the library webpage or find them using the SCONUL access scheme.
Journal articles
- To find out if GCU has a specific journal article, first search for the journal title in Find journals and ejournals on the library webpage and see if GCU has a subscription which covers the date you require.
- If the journal is only available in paper at GCU Glasgow, ask at the GCU London library or email gculondonlibrary@gcu.ac.uk to arrange an inter-site loan.
- For journal articles not available at GCU, apply for an Inter-library loan on the library web site or try to find the journal and date required in paper by using SCONUL access.
Using SCONUL Access
Don’t forget, you can join and borrow books from other local libraries under the SCONUL access scheme! It is free and may be faster than asking for a book as an inter-site loan. Check the SCONUL access handout or ask at the GCU London library.
What is the difference between inter-library loans and inter-site loans?
An inter-site loan is for GCU London students to borrow items from GCU Glasgow. An inter-library loan is used to get items which aren’t available from GCU. These are supplied by the British Library and will be posted to GCU London (books) or your home address (journal articles).
What is the fastest way to get an item which is not in stock at GCU London?
Use SCONUL access! It is always faster to go to a local library and borrow the book from them. You will be able to photocopy journals articles too. You can find a full list of local libraries on the SCONUL access web page at http://www.access.sconul.ac.uk/
