Professor Linda Creanor
Linda Creanor is Professor of Learning Technology in GCU LEAD (Centre for Learning Enhancement and Academic Development) at Glasgow Caledonian University. She currently leads two strategic initiatives: Blended Learning, which combines excellence in established modes of learning and teaching with the innovative use of learning technology; and Caledonian Scholars and Associates, which aims to enhance scholarship in learning and teaching through a distributive leadership model of professional development.
Linda has also engaged in research and consultancy activities involving UK and European projects
focusing on online communities, the learner experience and re-engineering assessment practices,
attracting funding from the EU, JISC and SFC. She has over 40 publications to date, including a co-
authored book 'Learning with Online and Mobile Technologies: a Student Guide'. She regularly
reviews journal and conference papers, serves on editorial boards and evaluates funding proposals.
Her interests span both research and academic development in learning technology, and are based
on the belief that innovation should be underpinned by evidence, appropriate technologies and
collaborative approaches.
Linda began her career as a teacher after gaining an MA in French and German from the University
of Glasgow and postgraduate qualifications in both primary and secondary teaching from Strathclyde
University. She took forward her interest in education and technology through an MSc (IT) at the
University of Glasgow following which she became a research fellow in learning technology at
Glasgow. She went on to develop her academic career as a lecturer, senior lecturer and professor at
GCU, having gained a PhD (by previous publication) on ‘Networked Learning in a Social Action
Context’.
Nationally, Linda has served as Trustee, Vice-Chair, Chair and President of the Association for
Learning Technology (ALT) and currently chairs the ALT-Scotland group. She is a Fellow of the Higher
Education Academy and a member of the UK Heads of E-Learning Forum.
