Learning from Digital Natives
Integrating Formal and Informal Learning
This project was funded by the UK Higher Education Academy in 2006- 2007 to explore university students' use of digital tools (such as mobile devices, social media) to support their learning and socialisation both within and outside university settings. The study identified pedagogical, socio-cultural, organisational and technological barriers and enablers to students’ use of digital tools for learning. Case studies and recommendations to universities on how digital tools can be integrated into formal curricula to improve the quality of learning were developed. Other key outcomes included a range of presentations at national and international conferences and seminars, as well as a paper in the Computers and Education journal. The project was co-led by Allison Littlejohn and Anoush Margaryan in the Caledonian Academy, in collaboration with David Nicol, University of Strathclyde, UK.
