The Caledonian Academy is seeking to appoint a full time post-doctoral Researcher 1A to work for 12 months on its research project ‘Work and Learning at the Boundaries of Knowledge'. The study will examine learning practices of knowledge workers in two multinational organisations (software engineering and financial services) aiming to surface describe and systematise the activities and strategies these workers use to self-regulate the learning they undertake to maintain their expertise and support the generation of new knowledge.
Under the supervision of the Director and working with other CA researchers, the post-doctoral Researcher 1A will coordinate the project, and will contribute to its research activities. In particular, the Researcher 1A will be in charge of collecting and analysing data for the project, liaising with industrial partners, and contributing to the research output for the project in collaboration with the other members of the research team.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree and PhD in psychology, learning science, education or work/organisational psychology and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of current research on workplace learning of knowledge workers as well as issues surrounding organisational socialisation. Further essential requirements for this role include the ability to analyse data collected using standard software packages, understanding and practical experience of a range of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, excellent communication skills and inter-sectoral cultural competence, in particular the ability to communication and operate effectively across academic and non-academic contexts.
