The Web Systems Development (.NET) programme provides candidates who have some experience of software development technologies with the opportunity to develop their careers by enhancing their skills in Microsoft.Net development, specifically in the area of web systems and data-driven websites. The programme provides the opportunity to gain postgraduate level academic qualifications in addition to preparation for Microsoft developer certifications relevant to Web Systems Developemnt.
The following study options are available:
This course will be offered on an evening basis over two academic semesters. The modules which will make up the course provide detailed coverage of .NET fundamentals and database-driven web development using .NET technologies, and and include content which provides preparation for Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification requirements in ASP.NET and ADO.NET
Building on the Post Graduate Certificate, you can study on an evening basis for an additional two semesters to attain a Post Graduate Diploma. The modules which are studied here cover advanced web development, web services and distributed systems development using the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Enterprise Application Architecture and “Web 2.0” application development. The course provides coverage, with a .NET focus, of key topics in modern Web Developement, and includes content which provides preparation for the MCTS exam in WCF and the advanced Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) exam in ASP.NET.
Following completion of the PgD, candidates may choose to undertake a dissertation leading to the award of MSc
Study structure of this evening programme would be planned with an assigned study advisor.

Academic credit for a module is achieved by passing the university assessment for that module (typically written exams and/or coursework). Microsoft certification exams are independent of the course, and candidates can make their own arrangements to sit these at any Prometric test centre (the Caledonian ICT Academy is in the process of becoming a Prometric centre).
This course requires that entrants have sound object-oriented software development skills and experience with a high level language such as C#, Java or equivalent, and knowledge of software development tools and practices. You will typically have an Honours degree in Computer Science or a cognate discipline, or a degree in any discipline together with significant programming experience and/or relevant professional certification.
The .NET framework supports a range of programming languages, and Microsoft certification exams can be taken with either C# or VB.NET. The language used in this course will be C#. While some course materials will also include VB.NET examples, you can expect the lectures and labs to be focussed on C#.
