Pension Scheme

The provisions for superannuation are dependent on the type of post that you hold at the University.

Academic Posts

Employees aged over 18 will automatically join the Scottish Public Pensions Agency and contributions will be deducted from monthly salaries. Details of the scheme are issued to new staff on appointment by the Human Resources Administration Team.

Under the terms of the Social Security Act, 1986, you have the right to opt out of this scheme and make your own arrangements, should you wish to do so. If you want to opt out, you should advise the Human Resources Administration Team.

The University Court will not make employer’s contributions to any fund other than the Teachers’ ( Scotland ) Superannuation Scheme for staff in Academic posts.

Research Posts

The appropriate scheme for research staff depends on whether or not there is an element of teaching in their duties. In simple terms, if there is an element of teaching, then they join the Scottish Public Pensions Agency. If there’s not, then they join the Strathclyde Pension Fund. For further information please contact the Human Resources Administration Team.

Professional/Support Posts

Employees aged over 16 with an offer of employment of 3 months or more are eligible to join the Strathclyde Pension Agency, contributions will be deducted from your monthly salaries and your rate of contribution will now be dependant on your salary. Details of the scheme are issued to new staff on appointment by the Human Resources Administration Team.

Under the terms of the Social Security Act, 1986, you have the right to opt out of the scheme and make your own arrangements, if you wish. If you decide to opt out, you should advise the Human Resources Administration Team.

The University Court will not make employer’s contributions to any fund other than Strathclyde Regional Council’s Superannuation Scheme for staff in Professional or Support posts.
